About The Artist

Michael Mullen is a fine artist specializing in letterpress prints

Michael is an award winning fine artist and printmaker who has a BFA from Wayne State University in Detroit Michigan where he studied drawing and printmaking. His letterpress prints use the relief process where an image is drawn, transferred to a block of wood or linoleum, and carved by hand. The block is then placed onto an 1891 Chandler & Price letterpress that Michael fully restored. In addition, Michael is a freelance art director and the proud father to son, Brendan and his dog, Shelby.

About The Press

Michael restored his 1891, Chandler & Price letterpress

This wonderful machine is an 1891, Chandler & Price, 8×12 letterpress. Made in Cleveland Ohio, this press was used for commercial printing and was considered the “Cadillac” of presses. It was used as a commercial press till the 1970’s and then sat, unused till Michael purchased it at the end of 2011. After 6 months of restoration the press is now used for the printing of limited edition, fine art prints.
